What is Rallyday?

There are many different areas which make the day what it is. For a brief description on each aspect of the event, hover your mouse over the topics listed below.

Star Rally Drivers & Co Drivers

Since Rallyday began, rally stars have formed a key element of the show each year. Rallyday has been fortunate enough to attract some of rallying’s star drivers including Richard Burns, Colin McRae, Alister McRae, Stig Blomqvist, Paddy Hopkirk, Gigi Galli, Pentti Airikkala, Mark Higgins, David Llewellin, Phil Collins, Tony Fall, John Taylor, Gwyndaf Evans, Daniel Sola, Kris Meeke and Andy Gwynne. Other rallying celebrities in attendance have included Robert Reid, Phil Mills, Nicky Grist, Phil Short, David Sutton, Jon Desborough and Tony Mason.

Russ Swift and Paul Swift have provided their own inimitable driving entertainment and continue to amaze the crowds each year with the latest precision driving routines.

Rally Car Rides

For people who attend the event who want to do more than spectate, there is the opportunity to have a ride in a rally car with a professional instructor at the wheel.

White knuckle rides are available on track and on a specially designed rally stage on the perimeter of the circuit so there are a choice of experiences for visitors to have.

All vehicles are equipped with roll cages and full harnesses and individuals taking part will be given a helmet to wear. The vehicles which undertake the rides have varied through the years from Peugeot 106 to Dakar specification Bowler Wildcats.

Trade Exhibitors & Car Manufacturers

A major attraction of the event is without doubt the extensive trade displays throughout the paddock.

Trade exhibitors vary from small specialist stands to large multi-car displays with exhibition units: Car Manufacturers and Dealers, Wheel and Tyre Suppliers, Tuning Companies, Team Merchandise, Art and Literature, Posters, Rally Car Preparation, Fuel and Oil, Model Cars, Rally Car Rides, Photo’s, Motoring Accessories, Graphics Companies etc

Rallyday provides traders linked with rallying an ideal opportunity to market directly to thousands of attending visitors, many of them rally enthusiasts. If you would like to see a list of the traders who have exhibited at Rallyday or you are interested in reserving space in the paddock to exhibit at the next event then please visit the traders section of the website.

Rallyday Interactive

‘Rallyday Interactive’ is where visitors of all ages can go further than just spectate. Whether it be a rally simulator, radio controlled rally car races, wheel change challenge or a full on white knuckle ride in a rally car, there are many activities for people to participate in.

Track Time

Track sessions run on the track for the majority of the morning and afternoon, with a traditional break for the Feature Rally Stage between 12pm – 2pm.

Sessions consist of 20 cars (rally car or rally related-road car) driving the circuit for a approximately ten minutes. The track sessions are not timed but give clubman rally teams and private owners the chance to enjoy their car's performance on the open track, along with other like-minded individuals, and where possible, cars of similar type are run together.

Rallyday is also an ideal way for a rally team to entertain it’s own VIPs. Given that getting a sponsor or support crew member a trip in a rally car during a normal rally is almost impossible, using the track sessions as a way to get their sponsors or team members into the car in a relaxed environment is simple and can be achieved at minimal cost.

Noise and track restrictions and conditions apply. All track time must be booked in advance.

Interviews & Autographs

As well as driving at the event, Rallyday has dedicated timeslots for interviews and autograph sessions with star drivers and co-drivers. Tony Mason and Jon Desborough have conducted the interviews live in front of the attending crowds. Autograph sessions at specific times of the day are there to give autograph hunters a chance of getting a signature from their rallying idols.

Feature Rally Stage

For the many thousands of spectators, the main highlight of the day is the Feature Rally Stage.

From midday the track is transformed into a short tarmac rally stage, which has excellent viewpoints for the attending spectators. All the invited cars taking part are something special; from Group B Supercars to the latest WRC machinery, or something unique such as a Pikes Peak, Rally Raid or Rallycross Supercar. Just before each car is started, our commentator has a brief chat with the driver, asking a couple of questions about the car.

The cars are then counted down on the start line before attacking the untimed rally stage to the joy of the assembled crowds.

Car Club and Motor Club Areas

Car Clubs, Motor Clubs or individual members can book areas in the paddock to display their cars. All cars in the paddock must be either rally cars or rally-related road cars, so that they promote the rallying theme of the day.

From the Lancia Stratos Owners Club to the Mitsubishi Lancer Register, all of the car marques linked with rallying are displayed. Car club parades have also proved very popular and have included amazing sights such as over 75 Audi Quattro Turbos on track at the same time!

Rally Cars of all Shapes and Sizes

The event endeavours to showcase a complete cross section of Rally cars, including many examples which have made rallying the spectacle it is today.

Many of these extremely rare vehicles are seldom seen on display, let alone in action, so Rallyday gives spectators a unique opportunity to see them being put through their paces as they would have been many, many years ago. Rallyday is proud that these fantastic machines haven’t only been limited to rallying, but have also included Rallycross, Rally Raid and Pikes Peak.

Examples of the cars which have attended Rallyday can be found at the gallery section of this website.

Charity Auction

Rallyday has a chosen charity which is Save The Children. Each year collectors operate around the circuit collecting for this very valuable cause. As well as on-site collections there is a charity auction each year. We have previously auctioned off many rally related prizes ranging from a bootlid from and ex-works Ford Escort to a ride at the event with Colin McRae.

Prize donations are very welcome.

Rallyday Girls

Where would Rallying be without a bit of glamour? The Rallyday Girls can be seen on the stage during the celebrity interviews and around the main paddock.
