Event History - 22nd September 2007

Over 10,000 Rally Fans and motorsport enthusiasts paid their respects to Colin McRae at Rallyday on 22nd September 2007 at Castle Combe. Following a 1 min silence a slow parade of 2 of Colin's Rally cars took place.

1983 World Rally Champion Hannu Mikkola presented the PIAA Pioneer Awards. In addition Hannu drove two spectacular cars at the event. Hannu opened the Feature rally stage with the Mark Solloway prepared MKII Escort and also relived a few memories when he drove the iconic Audi quattro S1 E2 aftrwards. Hannu was interviewed by long term colleague and Rallyday regular Tony Mason.

Matt Wilson from the Stobart Team brought things right upto date with the car they are currently campaigning in the World Rally Championship. Crowds were treated to several flamboyant displays and demonstrations which highlighted the control and the agility of Matt paired with the M-Sport prepared Focus WRC06.

Gwyndaf Evans stepped upto the Mitsubishi World Rally Car from his usual GPN Works Evo 9. Spectators cheered him following a terrific display on the stage. He was also interviewed by his former co-driver and Rallyday commentator Howard Davies.

David Appleby drove the awesome Prodrive built Aston Martin Rally GT on the circuit and on the Feature Rally Stage. The car received tremendous attention throught the day and was a delight to watch and sounded incredible.

British Rally Championship Competitors James Wozencroft and Lorna Smith gave Suzuki an incredible Rallyday debut. The distinctive team arrived in force and their driving and paddock display made a welcom addition to the event.

Tesco 99 and the British Rally Championship dominated the centre of the main paddock with numerous competitors and sponsors Greenergy and Pirelli. The Greenergy Impreza could be seen burning Tesco 99 fuel and lots of rubber on the feature rally stage - much to the delight of the spectators. The BRC teams also drove through a seperate rally stage utilising some of the circuit perimiter road.

Other stars and attractions at the show included former British Rally Champion Russell Brookes who drove the Manta Heat for Hire Sunbeam and Manta 400. There were over 40 Clubmans rally teams at the event who used the circuit to entertain sponsors and teams. Russ Swift and Paul Swift were on top form and Russ drove half of the circuit on two wheels.
