Event History - 2004

A record crowd of nearly 10,000 attended Saturday's fourth Rally Supercar Day at Castle Combe.

Star of the show was Colin McRae, who arrived at the Wiltshire Circuit by air to drive a Dakar-prepared Nissan Pickup and the incredible 150mph Nissan Micra R.

As well as getting the chance to see Colin McRae in action, the crowds also thrilled to the driving talents of Alister McRae, Daniel Sola, Pentti Airikkala, Kris Meeke, Andy Gwynne, Phil Collins and John Taylor to name but a few, whilst Russ and Paul Swift provided excellent entertainment with their very popular precision driving displays. The event was also attended by other rallying celebrities including Nicky Grist, David Sutton and Jon Desborough. Tony Mason provided commentary and conducted interviews throughout the day.

For many visitors, however, the day offered a rare chance to see at close quarters a vast collection of the cars which made rallying history in action. These included Audi quattro S1, A2 and GpA; Lancia Stratos, Integrale and 037; a large collection of Metro 6R4's, Renault Alpine A110 and Maxi Turbo and numerous ex-works Ford Escorts. Modern Machinery took the form of World Rally Cars from Subaru, Mitsubishi and Ford. JWRC was represented by the Team Palmer Opel Corsa sponsored by McRae Motorsport.
